The Cii Yellow Belt certification follows the Define/Measure/Analyze/Improve/Control (DMAIC) format. Unlike Six Sigma’s DMAIC focus on process effectiveness (CTQ-based quality), it is primarily focused on Lean’s process efficiency concepts and tools (productivity). To that end, Yellow Belt efforts are focused on reducing processing or service cost without affecting customer performance.

Traditional Yellow Belt certification is knowledge-based rather than experience-based. The Cii certification includes the requirement to complete a project with the exam providing individuals who can make organizational improvements and “pay for” the training received.

A Cii certified Yellow Belt is trained to be on the constant hunt for waste and opportunities for cost reductions. It is these “wastes” that negatively affects every organization’s bottom line. The Cii Yellow Belt training program includes:
